Ground Clearance, Levelling & Terracing

The heavy work that makes everything else possible: clearing, levelling and terracing a garden so it can be used and built on.

A terraced garden held by gabion stone walls, with stepped levels of lawn rising to a house and summerhouse.

A lot of the most valuable work in a garden is the part that gets covered up. Clearing an overgrown plot, taking out old structures and stumps, and reshaping a slope into usable ground is what turns a difficult site into one you can actually build on and enjoy.

Terracing a sloping garden is as much engineering as it is design. We handle the retaining structures, the drainage behind them and the transitions between levels, using stone, gabions or brick as the setting calls for. Done properly, the ground stays where we put it through wet winters and dry summers.
