A Woodland Pool with a Garden Room

A mosaic-lined pool set into woodland, with a garden room alongside it, stone treads that cantilever into the water and an enclosure that runs the length of the pool.

The garden here is woodland. Oaks and pines stand close to the boundary, rhododendrons underneath, and the pool sits among them as a long rectangle of iridescent blue-green mosaic in a pale grey porcelain terrace.

Stone treads cantilever out of the mosaic wall and drop into the water part way along the pool: an entry built into the structure rather than a ladder hooked over the edge. A slatted cover lies in a recess along the near side, and a glazed enclosure runs the length of the pool on a track. Drawn over, it keeps the water warm and clean when the weather turns. Parked at one end, it leaves the terrace open to the trees.

A cream weatherboarded garden room stands on the far side with sliding doors onto the terrace, and the retaining wall below the house steps carries an underwater mural. Along the other side a strip of lawn takes a putting mat and a trampoline.
