A White-Rendered Pool Garden
A walled pool garden in white render and pale limestone, with gravel beds of grasses and lavender, a mature palm, and a cover that closes flush with the coping.
The pool is the quiet part of this garden. White rendered walls with square openings hold the space, large-format limestone runs underfoot, and the automatic cover closes flush with the coping; for most of the year the water is a pale rectangle in the paving.
The planting is deliberately restrained: a mature palm against the render, clipped box, lavender and ornamental grasses in silver gravel behind black steel edging, dark grey planters at the margins, and a yew hedge behind. A dark seated figure is set against the white render at one end.
Beyond the hedge are the lawn, a greenhouse and the white house itself. The pool garden keeps to itself without being hidden away.
