A Composite Deck and New Lawn at a New-Build Home

A new-build garden usually arrives as a rectangle of builder's turf and a fence. The house is finished and the garden is not, and the two do not yet look as though they belong to each other.

Here the deck does the joining. Grey composite boards run the full width of the elevation, wide enough for a table at one end and a covered hot tub at the other, and step down cleanly onto a new lawn edged in stone.

Along the boundary, a horizontal cedar batten screen replaces the fence you would otherwise be looking at, with young trees staked and new shrubs planted behind it. As the planting establishes it will soften that line.
