A Buff-Stone Koi Pond
A koi pond edged in buff stone, with a curved sandstone sitting area and a planted rockery bank rising behind the water.
This koi pond was built into a gentle bank, with buff stone boulders set around the water and a rockery climbing behind it to a low retaining wall.
A curved sandstone terrace wraps the near edge, close enough to sit and watch the fish from a chair at the water's edge. Young planting through the rockery will fill in and soften the stone as it establishes.
Built on a slope like this, the pond doubles as a way of holding the ground, so a bank that was awkward to use became the best part of the garden.
